The Ballarat: a Learning Community 'Drugs: a preventative approach' forum held on Thursday 10th August was attended by around 30 members of our community. Guest speakers covered topics such as 'harm reduction', the need for extra services in the area to meet demand and how to discuss the drug topic with your children.
The evening provided an in site into the path a person addicted to drugs, alcohol or inhalants takes to recovery and what their families deal with on a day to day basis. Family support and counselling was indeed a common thread from prevention, to the recovery process and then ongoing support for the individual.
All those who attended indeed took away some valuable information and agreed that the Drugs topic should be explored further in the near future.
